I love this quick response to Dot’s “sour-puss” letter! He assures her that even a letter like that cheers up a ‘sick sailor.’
I really enjoyed the pithy second paragraph. “Christmas play sounds interesting. Don’t want to see it. You’re not in it.” (Take that, mean old Mrs. Housemother!)
He goes on for a few sentences about winter in Chicago and Ohio, then remarks that Ohio has nice springs and falls, “Reminding me, I’ve fallen for you. See, I don’t have anything to write about except the weather, either.” I love how he expresses total solidarity with her, in every mood.
He closes to gaze out the window at the full moon and send her his love.
